Course Description

Although the course is comprehensive, it is far from all-encompassing.  Limiting our scope to a manageable amount of material necessitates omitting many aspects of pulmonary medicine.  For example, there are greater than 150 kinds of interstitial lung disease, but we will cover only a few.  Many areas will only be briefly mentioned or not covered at all; i.e., high-altitude pulmonary medicine, diving medicine, lung transplantation, lung manifestations of systemic diseases, cardiopulmonary exercise physiology, etc.

The course consists of 14 lectures, a review session, and three small groups, as well as self-study questions given to you with each lecture.  The small group problems are in a case-based format.  In addition to reinforcing lecture material, these sessions will expand significantly on areas only briefly covered in lectures.  They also will include some new information (e.g. managing tobacco abuse).  finally, the groups provide an easy forum to have your questions answered on any aspect of the course.
